Free tickets to Austin Camerata events in May
About Austin Camerata

The mission of the Austin Camerata is to enrich the city of Austin by introducing new audiences to the world of chamber music through creative concerts, artistic collaborations and community outreach.

The Austin Camerata is offering 10 pairs of complimentary tickets (20 total) to our ChamberFest at Imagine Art on Sunday May 20th at 4 p.m. Tickets include complimentary food & drink along with a great selection of works for string quartet and sextet. Composers include Haydn, Grieg, Borodin, Tchaikovsky, and Gabriela Lena Frank.

A program highlight: living composer Gabriel Lena Frank's "Leyendas: An Andean Walkabout" for string quartet draws inspiration from the idea of mestizaje as envisioned by the Peruvian writer José María Arguedas, where cultures can coexist without the subjugation of one by the other. As such, this piece mixes elements from the western classical and Andean folk music traditions. - Gabriela Lena Frank

We are offering 6 pairs of complimentary tickets (12 total) to our festival finale "Reinventions" at the Long Center on May 23rd and 24th at 7:30 p.m. The program features three incredible works for conductorless chamber orchestra: selections from Grieg's Holberg Suite, Piazzolla's "Four Seasons of Buenos Aires" with violin soloist Chee-Yun, and Shostakovich's chamber symphony (string quartet no. 8) with interactive choreography for five dancers.

As the collaborative centerpiece of the program, Shostakovich’s masterpiece is a powerful reflection on war, politics, and the personal struggle of a composer caught between his own demons and dictatorship under the Soviet Union. Dedicated to “the victims of war and fascism,” the music evokes nightmarish chase scenes, sardonic waltzes, and haunting beauty, mourning the losses of those who died in WWII. This monumental work is reimagined with innovative choreography to reveal the music’s incredible history and to connect its story with audiences on a level never yet achieved.
